The Story of Lu Ban

Near the bend of the Qingshui River lived a famous carpenter named Lu．Old Lu never took on any students, not even his three sons．One day, he sent his eldest and second son to Zhongnan Mountain to look for the founder of carpentry to learn some skills．However, the lazy and sluggish sons fooled around, spent their father’s money, and failed to reach the mountain．Disgraced at their actions, Old Lu now put all his hopes in the youngest son, Lu Ban, and sent him to Zhongnan Mountain to learn the skills of carpentry．

Lu Ban, who was disciplined and willing to learn, successfully arrived at Zhongnan Mountain after an extremely long journey．He found the master of carpentry and begged to be accepted as his student．The old master only agreed after Lu Ban answered his three questions correctly and morally．Afterwards, Old master tested Lu Ban’s patience and skills by making him sharpen and polish some useless tools to make them useful again．Lu Ban continued to do so for seven days and nights．Old master observed that Lu Ban was willing to bear hardship and was very happy to teach him all his carpentry skills．Lu Ban studied hard for three years and completed his studies of craftsmanship．Lu Ban eventually became an extremely well known carpenter．
